The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts houses one of the world's most extensive combinations of circulating, reference, and rare archival collections in its field. It is known particularly for its prodigious collections of non-book materials such as archival papers, historic recordings, videotapes, autograph manuscripts, correspondence, sheet music, stage designs, scripts, scrapbooks, press clippings, programs, posters, photographs, and other ephemera. To learn more about research at the Library for the Performing Arts, please visit our webpage.

As part of the Library’s phased reopening, the Library for the Performing Arts is now open for research services, including unlimited browsing in our circulating collections on the first and second floors and in our Outdoor Reading Room. In line with pre-pandemic service, some collections require advance consultation with staff and/or an appointment to view. You may book a virtual consultation with a Library staff member to discuss your research needs and make an appointment to come onsite. If you are not sure which division is right for your research, please contact Ask NYPL for assistance.
